Australia is one of the most biodiverse counties on earth, however Australia has lost more mammal species to extinction than any other continent since colonisation. Australia’s native wildlife and ecosystem continue to be threatened by climate change, natural disasters, invasive species and human activity. With vast geographic and isolated areas, our native wildlife is facing critical challenges everywhere, from the outback to bustling city scapes and metropolitan suburbs.

Visionary, driven and passionate about environmental and animal welfare issues, Dr John Read is the ideas man who established South Australian based Thylation group in 2018, after developing innovative tools he trialled initially on his own property, Australia’s largest privately managed nature reserve, to protect the endangered mallee fowl and other marsupials. John’s vision and belief of the need to think outside-the-box to protect threatened species and the ecosystem for the future is core to the Thylation Group.

Creativity, innovation, technology, sustainability and evidence-based data and decision making drive us. We believe business, community and conservationists all need to work together to achieve conservation outcomes and save threatened species and our biosystem. This drives our business model and the way we work, we collaborate, engage, listen, and stay informed to generate conservation innovation and tools. The Thylation group works collaboratively and on a partnership business model with traditional landowners, not-for-profit conservation organisation’s, government agencies and private enterprises who have the greatest understanding of the threats to native fauna and the subsequent effects of their loss.
