Nyangumarta are the Traditional Owners of more than 33,843km2 of country in north-western Australia extending from approximately 110kms of coastline along Eighty Mile Beach in the West and approximately 320km deep into the Great Sandy Desert in the East. Nyangumarta rangers care for country and continue to develop new strategies for land management. We have found new populations of a threatened species, the Black-footed Rock-wallaby, amongst the scattered rocky outcrops. These Karapulu are threatened by feral cats so we have been using four Felixers^TM for nearly 12 months and have had removed at least six (6) cats around a really isolated wallaby population that we can’t frequently visit for trapping or shooting. This project is ongoing and we are trialling a combination of land management activities (fire, shooting, trapping) to see what combination is the best outcome for threatened species. Stay tuned!
